This is a beautiful hike in Angeles National Forest that takes you through a shady canyon through which Winter Creek flows as it joins up with Santa Anita Creek.
Coming along Highway 210/Foothill Freeway from Arcadia, take the Santa Anita Ave exit and then drive about 6 miles north to its end at Chantry Flat. Find parking in the lot and the trailhead is right across the road.
From the trailhead you will follow a paved road down into Santa Anita Canyon. Eventually you will cross a bridge where you need to veer left to stay on the marked trail. After about 1.5 miles you will pass Hoegee Camp and just past the camp there will be two trail junctions. The second trail junction is for the upper section of Winter Creek, which you will take to a fire road just above the parking area and your car. The upper section has more sun than the lower section, which can get quite cold in the winter.
The upper section of the trail has some steep drop offs - be careful!
The parking lot can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays so get there early.
