One of the world's great meadows, this beautiful 2 mile long open expanse in Yosemite National Park features granite peaks surrounds and the Tuolumne River running through it. Visiting during spring and summer affords abundant wildflowers and, at all times of year, beautiful photography.
Tuolumne is a major destination in Yosemite National Park. To get there from Yosemite Valley, go along Highway 120 to the Crane Flat turn onto the Tioga Road. Take Tioga Road 38 miles east to get to the meadows.
If you're coming from the east entrance, you will come in along Tioga Road and go 8 miles west to the meadows.
Parking is along the sides of the meadows.
Tuolumne Meadows is essentially one big stroll. You can go as far as you'd like and simply sit down and picnic by the river when the fancy strikes you. There are small bridges along the path and plenty of opportunities for photographing the granite peaks and rolling river.
The center of the meadow has a picturesque bridge and there are small trails around the edges.
Mosquitoes are around when there are marshy conditions in the meadows.
Although it is a popular area, the meadow is large enough that you won't have too much of an issue with crowds.
The entrance fee to Yosemite National Park is $20 for private vehicles for 7 days.
The Tuolumne Visitor Center has many amenities, including toilets, snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. There is also food at the grill and the convenience store near the eastern edge of the meadow.
