This is a fantastic hike into some of the most beautiful areas of the San Gabriel Mountains in Angeles National Forest. The highlight of the trail is the great 50-foot high Switzer Falls, but there are small cascades and pools along the way as well.
From Highway 210, get onto Highway 2 going northbound and drive about 10 miles to the Switzer picnic spot on the right and side. Drive down to the parking area right outside the campground and you will see a bridge over the stream that will take you to the trailhead.
After crossing the footbridge over the stream and getting onto the trail, you will move back and forth several times across the stream running through Arroyo Seco Canyon. The hike goes above Switzer Falls and then comes back down to the stream. You can double back here to see the waterfall from the base.
After viewing Switzer Falls, continue down stream to the intersection with Bear Canyon. You can travel up this steep walled canyon for about 0.5 miles. You can continue farther up to Bear Camp if you desire, where you can camp for the night.
This is a popular trail and waterfall, so don't expect solitude.
