A great loop hike to some excellent views in Franklin Mountains State Park.
Coming along Interstate 10, take the Trans-Mountain Road easy for almost 4 miles. Here you will come to the Franklin Mountain State Park entrance - take a left into it. At the first paved road in the park, turn right and follow this to the parking lot. You will find a wooden information board and the trailhead.
From the parking lot, you will start the trail in a fairly level fashion. After about 2/3s of a mile you will come to a small junction - take the path toward the right. The trail then forks up to the left onto a fairly unmaintained trail that heads upward in ascent. You will reach the saddle on the hilltop and continue to another saddle as well. The views from the tops of the hills are quite excellent. resume writer
From there you can follow the main trail back down and loop around to the parking lot.
Some of the trail, especially initially, is quite rocky.
There is a $5 per adult fee to enter the state park.
